Professor Zoltán Horváth dean for Faculty of Informatics of Eötvös Loránd University, head of Department of Programming Languages and Compilers, former director of EIT Digital Budapest Associate Partner Group, head of the ELTE Ericsson Software Technology Lab, former vice-rector for International Affairs, member of Committee of Informatics and Computer Science of Hungarian Academy of Sciences. Recently, he is a member of EIT Digital Supervisory Board and Chair of Node Strategic Committee EIT Digital Budapest. In 2013 participated in the Budapest HUB programme as a member of Higher Education Working Group (National Research, Development and Innovation Office) A member of Higher Education Advisory Committee of Tempus Public Foundation from 2014.
Main research/education areas: parallel and distributed programming, functional programming, programming languages. He has led a great deal of EU projects and been involved in various international researches. As the dean his mission is to preserve and further develop the traditional educational structure, based on strong theoretical foundation and competitive professional experience, to promote new transferable models of industrial-academic relations, to strengthen international dimensions and competitiveness of computer science education, to facilitate the introduction of the future emerging technologies in the academic research and teaching.
A result of his activities has been the establishment of ELTE Ericsson Software Technology Laboratory, which started working in 2011 and has been operating successfully to date. In addition, an Innovation Lab and an IoT Lab started operating recently at the Faculty of Informatics. Prof. Zoltán Horváth is one of the initiators and founding director of the EIT Digital Budapest Associate Partner Group (former EIT ICT Labs). EIT Digital Budapest is the only Central European member, and thus provides a key regional position for ELTE in the field of technological innovation. In 2017 Hungary became full node of EIT Digital.
Professor Zoltán Horváth is an owner of The Knight’s Cross of the Order of Merit and many other prestigious professional awards.
